I know for myself being an empath; it feels so heavy right now. With all that has taken place over the past several years and even the last few months, I feel sad and heavy for the world. I sense it as I’m navigating through my day, and it becomes so heavy I can barely stand it. As people who care very deeply, we want to do as much as possible to create peace. Unfortunately, some things are out of our control, but the things we can control. I have several techniques that I use to help me manage difficult times.
Meditate
I know I speak about meditation so very often, but during times when I feel I need an emotional cleanse, using a guided cleansing video to help me release some heaviness has been very beneficial. When I’ve felt so overwhelmed with emotion, this video has helped me visualize a way to release and send back all the feelings that I’m feeling. There are also so many other videos that can assist with healing to remove all that we are feeling. Find one that resonates with you.
Support
Laughter is my one form of healing. Watching a good comedy movie has been so beneficial for me. My favorite is Stepbrothers. If you haven’t seen it and need a laugh, I think this could do the trick. Call up friends who create laughter and fun for you, someone with good vibes even if you’re the person who is light-hearted and loves joking around; having someone who does the same for you has been so crucial for me. I also draw close to my pets during this time. It’s something about them that makes me feel some relief and relaxation. Get some animal cuddles in.
Journaling
Releasing some of the things we have pinned up and placing them on paper is another form of relief. I journal every day, good or bad, but even if you start with the bad, you’re doing it. Get you a cute notebook and pen and get to work.
Exercise
I don’t love exercise, but hey, it has its benefits. Even if there is a nature trail near you, walking it out can help release your mind from worry. Mindful walking is focusing on things around you using your senses. For example, when I walk, I look at the leaves and how the light hits the leaves. Dogs running, smelling the smoke from a barbeque grill, hearing the birds chirp. Enjoy the present as much as you can. Mindful walks can help with that.
I hope that you find some of these tools helpful. Remember to allow yourself space to process how you feel. We never want to stuff our feelings inside.
